Mike's Mountain Bike - Bike for mountains

Mike's Mountain Bike (or bike for the mountains)

In 1981 Mike Barry and his then business partner Mike Brown were the first North Americans to complete the famous mountain randonee, the Raid Pyrenean. Both of the Mikes had new Mariposas for the ride. In 2003 Mike Barry decided to attempt the ride again and managed to complete it although a good few hours slower than in 1981. This time Mike had another new Mariposa, one built to a specification which he believes is the ideal "mountain bike."

The ideal bike for this type of riding should have (1) a reasonably wide range of gears, (2) fenders, as it always rains in the mountains,(3) a small carrier to carry those clothes that are not needed on the way up but are definitely needed on the way down, and (4) it should be light.
